“Don’t Miss the Miracle in the Middle”
By Renee Brainos
We live in a world of instant gratification, and we often transfer this attitude to our spiritual lives. We want our prayers answered immediately. In our time, in our way. However, sometimes right now is not the best time.
God promised Abraham that he would become a great nation. After many years, we see his descendants finally making their way to Canaan.
As they are on the way, the Lord tells the children of Israel, “I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee. By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land” (Exodus 23:29-30).
What a letdown to our right-now attitude. But just think, if they had immediately entered the Promised Land, we would have missed God’s provision of manna in the wilderness. We wouldnot have seen the deliverance at the battle of Jericho. We would miss all the miracles in the middle.
When our first grandson was born, due to several complications, we were advised of several issues. At his birth, the things we were cautioned about were nonexistent, but other problems ledto almost a month in the NICU (neonatal intensive care). As our daughter prayed over her baby, she received a word from the Lord that one day her son would stand and give glory for his healing.
At the age of two, he was diagnosed as autistic and is nonverbal. While we wait for the day he testifies, we rejoice in the miracles. The smiles, giggles, and cuddles. The signs he has learned to communicate with us. The time he clutched his toy and said,“No, me!” when someone tried to carry it for him.
As we pray our right-now prayers, let’s not miss the miracles in the middle as God says wait.
