“Yahweh Jehovah Nissi”

“The Lord is My Banner”
“And Moses built an altar and called the name of it, The Lord is my Banner” (Exodus 17:15, AMPC).

This word banner is significant because it represents and identifies believers as a chosen, set-apart people unto a holy God. We must declare and affirm this through prayer and obedience to the Word daily, even amid battles. It represents a high standard of His valuable love that we must portray and maintain during the heat of these battles.

Moses was tired in this battle. In the previous verses, the people were murmuring and complaining. His people were inferior in resources and unequipped to fight the Amalekites. Jehovah Nissi is an attitude we must have to lift the banner of Calvary’s love for God’s people in battle. We do this by paying the price, as Moses did, for fighting for God’s territory. We do this by prayer and fasting.

Jehovah Nissi is a demarcation. This means Jesus wants His name glorified and magnified in the place we battle.

Yahweh Nissi identifies you as:
a people set apart
the expensive love of Jesus
the place where the name of Jesus must be glorified.

We must keep the banner of His glory, name, and love lifted high in the battle by building an altar of prayer like Moses did.

Choose to turn away from the people who complain about you. Be willing to be vulnerable and ask for help. The men had to hold up the arms of Moses to win the battle. That is how important prayer is for leaders. The people cannot win the battle when leaders are not praying in the “Jehovah Nissi” mindset, no matter how hard they work in the Kingdom.

Leaders must hold up the value of the high cost of His love among compromisers and those who reduce the worth or great value of His love. Jehovah Nissi is also the banner we hold up for soul-winning and spiritual warfare in intercessory prayer.
