“Intentionality” by Charita Dones.

Intentionality. The word itself conveys the act of making deliberate choices to reflect what is most important to us.

Have you ever wanted something for either yourself or a loved one that you did whatever was within your means to attain it? Well, the God of Creation certainly did. His desire for relationship with us was so intense that He purposed to manifest Himself in flesh and to die a torturous death on a cross to secure our futures with Him.

As He walked this earth, He intentionally suffered everything in this life that He knew we would have to endure to serve as our example. Every test, every trial, every moment of pain, ridicule, and suffering all led to His glorious death, burial, and resurrection. It is because of this ultimate (intentional) sacrifice, that we have a hope beyond the grave and can victoriously walk as sons and daughters of the Most High God.

My church, like many others, begins the new year with twenty-one days of prayer and fasting. During this period, I plan to engage with a deeper level of intensity for a number of things: a closer walk with God, my family, church unity, persistent and fruitful intercession, and end-time revival.

David expressed his deep longing for God this way:

“O God, thou art My God; early will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee In a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.” (Psalm 63:1)

I invited you to join me in beginning the new year with intentionality. Here is a suggested schedule I plan to use as I fast and pray.

Week 1: Digital detox with social media and entertainment fast
Week 2: Soul detox with gratitude
Week 3: Physical detox with fruits, vegetables, and water
