The Prayer of Blessing ” by Maya Hunley.

“As mothers, we have a profound influence on our children’s lives. One of the most powerful ways we can shape their destinies is through prayers of blessing. In the Bible, we see numerous examples of parents praying blessings over their children, and we can follow their example to release God’s favor and protection over our own kids.

Quite a few years ago, while we were serving in the Middle East, the Lord prompted me to begin verbally greeting my two daughters every single morning with a scriptural blessing. Now that they are in their pre-teen and teen years, these blessings are often greeted with an eyeroll and a grunt, but I am not giving up! Even when we are traveling the globe, I often text our girls with a scriptural blessing at a time I know they are waking up.

Prayers of blessing are not just a nice gesture; they have the power to transform our children’s lives. When we pray blessings over our children, we are inviting God’s presence and favor into their lives. We are asking Him to guide them, protect them, and empower them to fulfill every good purpose they were created for!

Here are some powerful Scriptural blessings we can pray over our children:

“[You] shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever [you do] shall prosper.” (Psalm 1:3)

“That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:16-19)

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (III John 1:2)

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

In whatever way the Lord leads us to do it, let us commit to praying blessings over our children regularly. Let us ask God to release His favor and protection over them, to guide them, to grow them and to empower them! As we do, we can trust that He will hear our prayers and bless our children abundantly.
