Discouraged or Distressed
” Facing the Rapids! “
When we consider the state of our world today, we may at times find ourselves discouraged or distressed. As I prayed for our nation, in particular, the political, social, economic, moral, and spiritual turmoil we face struck me as a rushing river. America drifted and listed on turbulent waters, severed from her foundational anchors, without even a protruding branch to grasp for stability.
In prayer, as I “gazed at the banks” searching for something to hold onto, the Lord impressed me with this thought:
“The stream is in my hand.”
A wave of peace swept in, and my swirling concerns were displaced by the presence of God. I actually laughed out loud. First, for the sheer delight in knowing that God cares enough to meet a solitary person who takes the time to sit with Him. And second, because the message He impressed upon me is true. The stream is in His hand.
From the beginning of time, God established a plan, and then, in the palm of His hand, He measured the oceans. Nothing is outside of His control. No matter how challenging our times are, our God is mighty to save. He works all things for His good purposes.
Yes, as His people, we should pray for righteous leadership and fulfill our duties as conscientious citizens. Ultimately, however, we entrust every outcome to God. There is no safer place to be than in God’s hands.
