Everyone wants to get their prayers answered
“Prayer for Souls”
Everyone wants to get their prayers answered, and there are several reasons why some prayers are not. One reason in particular stands out aside from regarding iniquity in our hearts, doubt, etc. Without going into a lot of detail (and paraphrasing, not quoting): James 4:3 says that you ask and don¹t receive because you ask amiss, that you may consume it upon your lusts (getting your way). I John 5:14-15 says that if we ask any thing according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask for, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
II Peter 3:9 says that The Lord is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Jesus’ prayer request in Matthew 9:38 and Luke 10:2 was that we would pray for labourers to be sent into the harvest. Evidently, Jesus’ priority and will is for souls to be saved, and if we’re praying according to His will, He will give us what we ask for! Here are some things to pray for to that end:
Pray for labourers to be sent into the harvest, even if it’s you that He wants to send.
Pray that God would make us effective soul-winners, not just door knockers or tract givers.
Pray that God would make us beacons of light that the lost would be drawn to.
Pray that God would prepare sinners’ hearts and soften them to receive the Gospel when we present it to them.
Pray that God would lead us to those who are hungry for Him and seeking Him. Pray that God would use us in the gifts of the Spirit in reaching the lost.
Pray that God would motivate us with a greater burden for the lost.
Pray that we would grow so close to God that sinners would be affected by the Spirit of God just by our presence.
Pray that God would put a spirit of travail upon us for the births of these souls.
When you pray for souls, realize that you may be the only thing standing between the lost and an eternal lake of fire.
